Flower Pasture

A micro flower farm / cutting garden

in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, UK.

We are delighted that you have stopped by

to learn more about us and what we do!

We are passionate about growing naturally beautiful and fragrant cut flowers.

Before our flowers get into your home, they share our garden with us, the birds and the bees. We believe this natural, healthy start results in happy flowers that are naturally more fragrant, long lasting and totally beautiful.

Our journey into the flower world has taught us how to grow flowers in a more sustainable way and we are committed to making as little impact on the environment as we can whilst doing so.

  • Natural flowers are grown with love and nourishment.

  • Locally grown flowers travel less miles and definitely do not fly!

  • Our fragrant flowers are grown free of harmful chemicals.

  • A wonky stem is to be cherished and used to its advantage.

  • We will only add to the earth’s health, not take from it.

We grow fragrant, unusual and heirloom flowers, plus time-honoured favourites: Ranunculus,  Dahlias, Sweet peas and Bearded Irises.

There is something to suit everyone and we hope we can inspire you to get better acquainted with the joy of British flowers.

But in the meantime, let us introduce ourselves…

Flowers make me smile, I have favourites, but I love them all. I am particularly drawn to cottage garden flowers that are deliciously scented. I am at my happiest when I have my hands in the soil, listening to the buzzing of the bees and gazing over a sea of flowers.

My love for flowers started a long time ago…

At the age of about four or five, I remember spending hours in my Mum’s Pansy patch, I would pick off the seedpods and scatter them around to create more flowers. I was fascinated by their pretty little faces and I fell in love with gardening as well as Pansies.

Visiting my Grandparents is another early flower memory. My Grandad was a keen gardener , he used to grow and show flowers and veg at local shows. He loved great big dinner-plate dahlias, that were as big as my head and I was totally in awe. My Dahlia obsession started early and keeps growing each year!

In my 20s, I rented a small Victorian cottage, which came with a long narrow garden, mostly laid to lawn. My landlord allowed me to create some beds and grow some flowers and this was the start of something very special. It was here I first realised the depth of my love affair with flowers! But it’s not just the flowers themselves, but growing them too. I would come home from a stressful day in the office and take a walk around the garden, do a bit of deadheading and all thoughts of work just slid into the ether. At the weekend, instead of having a well earned lay in, I would jump out of bed and get straight into the garden with my first cup of tea in hand and you would often find me at midday, still in the garden, still in my PJs, trowel or secateurs in hand, totally absorbed, not a care on the horizon.

Growing flowers brings me joy, but growing flowers for other people makes me happier still. I want others to glory in the beauty of naturally grown local flowers and relish the wonderful scent that they have when grown naturally, without nasty chemicals.

I am a traditionally trained Florist, but my style is more exuberant & natural. I love to arrange flowers in an intuitive way, allowing the way a stem turns to guide me, rather than follow the “design rules”!

Tim

I do all the manually intensive work, making sure the infrastructure is in place and soil is nurtured.

In a former life I was an Electrical Engineer, I still teach apprentice Electricians, in between turning compost, building frameworks and helping out with the planting, irrigation and much more.

I am the resident flower dog in training!

I can be found snoozing in the sun, ‘guarding’ the flowers and generally getting under everyones feet.
